Wadsworth Family Photo Session – Dixon, IL

November 15th, 2012

Here’s another Wadsworth family session out at their grandfather’s cabin.  We started in the late afternoon and the great thing is, it was one of the last good weather days of the year.  So no coats!  No gloves!  No hats! Then it was back to the Wadsworths for pizza and moose tracks ice cream.  🙂 […]

Ready for a post with a little bit of nerdiness???

I wanted to share these photos from a recent session with our friend Abby.  We’ve known her for quite a long time, like, about 15 years long I think!  Sessions with Abby are always great for lots of reasons.  First of all, Abby is awesome.  If you know her, you know that.  She’s a strong, young woman (though she might not think so sometimes) who has weathered and is weathering more of life’s hardships than most anyone I can think of and is still an approachable caring person.  There could be loads written about her and her family, but suffice it to say, they are great and if you know them, you love them.

These photos are from the second session we’ve used Abby as a model.  We do these sessions once in a while to hang out, experiment photographically, or for whatever reason we can think of.  This time around, we shared our nerd love for comic books and my nerd love for movie posters as Abby dressed up as one of her icons, Wonder Woman, which is also a nick name some have given her.

So let’s start off with two of the nerdy ones.

Ok, now for some of the nice, non-warrior ones.  🙂

Joshua & Jessica’s Stay-At-Home Engagement Session – Chicago, IL

September 11th, 2012

When Jessica brought up the idea of a staying-at-home engagement session, she said she wanted to have photos that reflected their life together, to have a “magazine-styled” session of their life.  To which I thought, “OKAY!!!”  We really love doing sessions like this, and they don’t come along very often, in fact, this was our […]

When Jessica brought up the idea of a staying-at-home engagement session, she said she wanted to have photos that reflected their life together, to have a “magazine-styled” session of their life.  To which I thought, “OKAY!!!”  We really love doing sessions like this, and they don’t come along very often, in fact, this was our first engagement session like this ever.

What a fun and really personal and intimate way of documenting their lives and love together.  I can’t say enough about it.

During the session I was making sure to take detail photographs here and there, of magazine stacks, artwork on the wall, etc.  Personally, when I’ve gone through old family videos or old photos, there are little hints in the background of those that speak to how our lives were years ago.  My hope is that later in life, these can bring old stories to mind that way my family photos do.  🙂

Anyways, I know I’m rambling a little bit, but it’s only because the session brought out my photojournalism leanings, and being invited to document their lives in an intimate way was a lot of fun.

Thanks to Joshua & Jessica for the idea and opening up your home and yourselves for the session!

Happy Father’s Day to my dad today (this is Chris, btw).

I wanted to post this session from this past week for Father’s Day, and even though it’s late at night right now, it still counts!  Kim contacted me for a family session at their home that would be a documentary style session (LOVE doing these kind!) and also she wanted it to be a surprise for her husband Antonio for his birthday, since he is always behind the camera.

They spent time with each other and their son, Orion, doing everyday things as I stayed around them photographing (which is a style of photography I love).  Also, I love spaghetti, so when they offered me that how could I refuse?!

Anyways, it was a great afternoon being able to see their close love between each other, so please take some time to check out this special and loving family.
